Easy Oven Roasted Tri Tip Recipe (1)

If you’ve never experienced a beef tri-tip, then now is the time. This is very easy and simple, yet tasty recipe. We love the leftover for fajitas or sandwiches the next day.

So, you ready??… let’s get cooking.

Ingredients

1 Tbsp. olive oil

3/4 tsp. salt

3/4 tsp. garlic powder

1/4tsp. cayenne pepper or to taste (optional)

2-2 1/2 pound tri tip roast- trimmed

BBQ or Steak Sauce (optional)

Direction:

Combine olive oil and spices and rub the roast with the mixture on both sides. Allow it to rest in your kitchen until it comes up to room temperature, about an hour.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Line baking sheet or oven roasting pan with aluminum foil; cover with aluminum foil and bake in preheated oven for 60-80 minutes to desired level of doneness.

Increase the oven temperature to 450 F. Remove the foil and generally brush the roast with your favorite BBQ sauce. Let it roast for about 15 minutes. ***(This step is optional; if you don’t want BBQ sauce on it, just open the roast and let it sit in the oven for another 15 minutes at 450F)

Remove the roast from the oven and re-cover with foil. Let it sit for 10 minutes outside the oven.

Place a tri-tip on a cutting board and slice 1/4 inch slices diagonally across the grain. Serve on a platter with accompanying sauces – BBQ sauce or steak sauce are good to have alongside.

That’s it. Enjoy! Serve with a side of Mashed Potatoes for a special treat!

***Roasting the tri-tips in the oven sacrifices a bit of the smoky flavor from the BBQ version – but the super-easy preparation and makes the oven version perfect for winter-time cooking and entertaining.

This looks like good recipe but for heavens sake DO NOT trim the fat off!! No self respecting Santa Maria resident would EVER trim the roast. The fat is where all the flavor is. If you must trim the fat do it after you cook it. If you trim the fat off you have ruined it!!!

Omgosh this is the best tri-tip recipe I’ve ever tried! I used a salt, garlic seasoning, used my large cast iron skillet and layered cut potatoes and carrots in the bottom and put the meat (fat-side down) on top, covered with tin foil and in about 1hr 30min uncovered and basted (just the meat) with sweet BBQ sauce another 15 min @459 then sure perfection! We could not eat it fast enough, everyone LOVED it!! Thank you!

Fat side down. the liquid in the meat rises when it cooks.
